Spring Clean

Spring Clean

The staff at Wardrobes Online are a bit geeky when it comes to storage and keeping things tidy. We can’t help it – we live and breathe all things ‘organisation’! So who better to ask for Spring Cleaning tips than our own team of organised experts. We asked around the office for Spring Clean tips and tricks, here’s what they had to say:

  1. Before you start cleaning, clean your cleaning equipment – Shaune

Sounds simple, but how many people actually disinfect their sponge before cleaning with it? Or vacuum the vacuum heads. Or sanitize the mop. Or bang out the broom? Don’t forget your appliances like your washing machine and dishwasher. A great tip is to run your washing machine and dishwasher empty on a normal cycle, with vinegar or baking soda instead of detergent.

  1. Use baking soda to refresh stained coffee mugs – Katie

Fill the mug with one part baking soda and two parts water. Let soak overnight, then rub with a sponge and rinse. You could also use a capful of bleach topped up with hot water – just be sure to clean thoroughly afterwards!

  1. Clean your windows with white vinegar and newspaper – Suzanne

In fact, Suzanne swears by vinegar for just about all household cleaning. And she’s not wrong, vinegar is really handy at dissolving dirt and grease and it’s strong enough to kill bacteria.

  1. If your waste disposal unit it a bit smelly, pop a couple of lemon rind shavings in there with cold water and whizz away – Dave

And another kitchen tip – keep a small bowl of baking soda in the back of the fridge to absorb odours (change every 3 months).

  1. Clean your wardrobe! Dust all shelves, vacuum the floor and wipe your drawer handles – Jane

It might sound obsessive to clean your wardrobe thoroughly, but a bulk of clothing in a high use area creates dust that builds up quickly which can make our clothes look more tired and worn then they actually are. While you are decluttering your wardrobe (see our earlier blog: 5 Tips to clear the Clutter), when the wardrobe is empty, get cleaning. Your clothes will thank you for it!
